Overseas Trips
We believe that students learn through service. Our program of service learning encourages students to live their lives with open eyes and ears, sensitive to the needs of others; open arms, willing to let others in and touch their lives; and open hearts, prepared to give themselves completely to opportunities to serve others. It is through service opportunities that we work with students to develop an understanding of, and empathy for, others as well as a willingness to serve each other and those less fortunate, both locally and from around the world. Therefore, our College offers students a wide variety of options for this development, including trips to overseas destinations. Students are blessed by being able to share this experience and learning with their friends, while under the supervision of our experienced staff.
Mission Trips serve as a wonderful opportunity for students to serve in a community less fortunate than our own while experiencing another culture and the value of travel. The College offers opportunities in local, regional and international mission. For Christian students such trips also afford them opportunities to share their faith with people who have little knowledge of The Gospel.
“Norwest instilled in me the importance of social justice and being a person who whole-heartedly and unconditionally loves others. These are the values that guide every decision that I make and will continue to inform the way I see myself and the people around me.” Lawrence Muskitta, Graduate, 2009
Local Mission: Holiday Kids Club
In partnership with Riverstone Baptist Church and ELC Vacation Care, we held our first annual Kids Holiday Club in October 2018 school holidays. Our Secondary student leaders ran action-packed and fun-filled programs that included drama, games, craft, music, bible talks, puppet shows and a great time with friends. They also led discussions about who Jesus is as an outreach to children from our local community. We are looking forward to hosting this again in the October School Holidays.
Regional Mission: Chapel Band Tour
Students sought the opportunity to support areas of Regional Australia, especially out of compassion for drought stricken farmers. Our annual Chapel Band tour visited regional schools and churches to perform at events and participate in fundraising. Funds raised were offered to regional communities and churches in support for local farmers. Students also ran music and drama workshops in local schools as they toured from Parkes, to Dubbo, Narromine, Wellington and Bathurst.
International Mission: Cambodia
The College organises an annual mission trip to Cambodia, where participants assist their Khmer counterparts. The team has built a communal bathroom complex and houses for a slum community, helped in a range of Christian children’s ministries, and shared the good news about Jesus Christ in an extensive program of drama, music, and craft, organised and narrated by students through a Khmer speaking translator. They will also learn about the ancient history of the Khmer empire with excursions to ancient temples around Siem Reap and the recent history of the Cambodian genocide under Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. On so many levels this is a life-changing experience for students.
