Sport
Our expansive campus enables our students to maintain a regular routine of physical activity. For students of all ages, our Physical Education program develops strength, coordination, fitness, teamwork, and a love of movement. Our Sport program gives students from Kindergarten to 12 the opportunity to participate in a range of sports simply for the purpose of enjoyment. Our representative sporting program gives students the opportunity to experience the thrill of inter-school competition in sports such as athletics, cross country running, swimming, football (soccer), softball, netball, basketball, volleyball, and touch football. Talented sportspersons may be selected to compete at higher levels in the sport of their choice. The College is part of the Christian Schools Sports Association (CSSA) and the Combined Independent Schools (CIS). These organisations give students a pathway to both Zone, State and National representation. The College is also a member of the Hills Zone Sports Association (HZSA).

All Primary students participate in a range of activities to help them develop strength, coordination, fitness and a love of physical activity. Each Primary class has one Physical Education lesson each week where they focus on the physical skills that comprise the many sports they may encounter in their lives. Each class also has one Sport lesson each week where they participate in a range of sports throughout the year.
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is mandatory for students in years 7-10 and is offered as an elective course for students in Year 11 and 12. The PDHPE courses provide students with the opportunity to learn about a range of areas that underpin health and physical activity. Students develop their critical thinking skills and develop a deep understanding of the factors that impact on heath, sport and physical activity. Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) is offered as an elective course in Years 9 and 10 and aims to enhance students’ capacity to participate effectively in physical activity and sport, leading to improved quality of life for themselves and others.
As well as competitive sport opportunities students take part in a number of House Sport Days which focus on participation and engaging in new challenges.
Students also have the opportunity to represent the College in CSSA and HZSA competitions and gala days in a variety of sports, including volleyball, basketball, futsal, touch football, cricket, netball, soccer, and softball. A high level of commitment is required by students who are selected for these teams including attending all training sessions.
Primary Students (Years 3-6)
The Hills Zone Sports Association provides a pathway to CIS and state representation for Primary students of member schools. Students can gain representation in the major carnivals of swimming, cross country and athletics as well as many other representative sports. In addition, gala days, championship days and semester one and two competitions across a variety of sports provide primary students with the opportunity to play weekly competitive inter school sport.
NWCC currently fields teams in Basketball, Cricket, Football/Soccer, Netball and Touch Football. Try outs for these teams are held during school time and selected students are expected to attend training sessions which may be held before or after school.
For Primary students HZSA games are played during school time, therefore NWCC provides transportation to and from the games.
If your child is selected for a team you will be informed via email and given directions on how to receive notifications through the college app. It is vital that you subscribe to these notifications to ensure that you are kept informed of any changes that may occur like cancellation of games or changes in locations.

Secondary Students (Years 7-12)

Students can gain representation in the major carnivals of swimming, cross country and athletics as well as many other representative sports. In addition, gala days, championship days and semester one and two competitions across a variety of sports provide Secondary students with the opportunity to play weekly competitive inter school sport.
NWCC currently fields teams in Basketball, Cricket, Football/ Soccer, FUTSAL, Netball, Touch Football & Volleyball. Once students have been selected for the team they are expected to attend weekly training sessions as well as attend the games.

For Secondary students HZSA games are played after school, NWCC provides transport to the venues but parents need to pick their children up for the venues at the end of the game.

Students participate in College swimming, cross country, and athletics carnivals throughout the year. For students eight years and older these carnivals may lead to selection in the College team that proceeds to representative level.

These carnivals give the students an opportunity to compete against each other, as well as obtaining official results which may allow them to move into the Zone Region Carnivals. Swimming is available from years 3-12, while the athletics and cross country carnivals are run from ELC through to year 12.
The College’s Outdoor Education Program introduces students to a variety of engaging and challenging practical activities providing opportunities for personal growth, character development, and leadership through various outdoor activities and camps. Stage 1 students undertake a Swim School program, Stage 2 students attend outdoor activities camps, and Stage 3 students take cultural trips to Canberra and the goldfields. In Secondary Years, students can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award which is a youth development program, empowering students to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world.
